I popped a bottle of this into the trolley whilst in the supermarket the other day, much to the delight of my children who fell in love with the bottle! ''Ahh, when I was little, I used to bath with this too!'' I told them.
Later that evening I started running a bath for my them, unscrewed the lid and took a huge nostalgic whiff of my beloved Matey. I was hoping to be transported immediately back to my childhood through the power of scent, but instead was greeted by a rather boring, nondescript aroma which quite frankly does not resemble the original Matey whatsoever!

When did you change the scent of this and why?
Aside from the fact that Matey produces an amazing amount of bubbles (which it still does, thankfully), one of the best things about it was it's scent........ the scent of many British childhoods, not just my own. After all... it's been around since 1958....Over 50 years! Why change it now?
I also saw the pink Matey bottle whilst shopping the other day too, and was again saddened to discover, it smells fruity! Yuck! I find it such a shame that companies feel the need to change things.
So depressing......... the end of an era!
Please change it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWow this brought back childhood memories, I remember there used to be badges to collect on the top of the bottles back in the late 70s. Rotten that they've changed the smell. They always have to go and spoil things!
ReplyDeleteI used to remember the fragrant scents which you could smell from upstairs, it's a real shame that they are using a new scent, thanks for the blog, I really never of thought they would change it.
